Luxury & Romantic Glamping in the Lakes
Two guides on the top of the market, and one clear conclusion: book the season rather than the site.
TL;DR
Luxury glamping in Cumbria means en-suite plus private hot tub, at £240–£450 a night. What you are actually buying is unit count: one to four units on several acres, rather than a fitted-out pod in a field of twenty. Excellent value between October and April. Questionable value in August, when you will use the tub twice and the fells are crowded.
The word luxury is applied loosely in glamping, so it is worth defining it before spending £350 on it. In the Lake District market, three things together make a stay genuinely luxury: a private bathroom inside the unit, a private hot tub, and a site small enough that you do not see other guests.
Everything else — the induction hob, the underfloor heating, the linen — converges fast at this price point. Every site has them. What varies is whether you can see a neighbour.

The pattern in that table is the whole argument of this section. The same unit costs 40% less in February than in August, and February is when a private hot tub is genuinely the reason the evening works. Shift the dates rather than downgrading the accommodation.
When the premium is real
Worth it:
- A two or three-night occasion — anniversary, birthday, proposal — between September and April
- Any trip where you will be at the unit for the evenings rather than out
- A February or November break, where the rate is lowest and the tub matters most
- Anyone who has previously glamped with a shared shower block and hated it
Not worth it:
- A week in August with children. Buy floor space instead — a safari tent at £280 sleeping eight is £35 a head
- A fell-bagging trip where you leave at eight and return at seven
- Any stay where the site has more than about eight units, whatever the unit specification
- Anywhere the tub turns out to be shared, or overlooked
Where to find it
Luxury glamping needs land, so it clusters where land is available and demand supports the rate:
- Eden Valley, near Penrith and Appleby — drier weather, wood-fired tubs, easy arrival. See Eden Heights.

- Cartmel and Cartmel Fell — the best food in the region.

The romantic version
If the point of the trip is two people and nothing else, the format we would choose is a shepherd's hut with a wood-fired tub, on a single-unit site, in the second half of October.
The reasoning: a hut is ten square metres with a log burner, which is exactly the right amount of space for two people and no distractions. A wood-fired tub gives you something to do while the light goes. A single-unit site means nobody else exists. And late October gives you fell colour, dark skies, cold evenings that make hot water matter, and a rate 30% below August.
What to check before booking anything at this level: is the tub exclusively yours for the whole stay, can anyone see into it, will it be hot when you arrive, how many other units are on the site, and what the access lane is like. Five questions, and they predict the stay better than any review.
