Camping Pods & Glamping Pods in the Lakes

Pods are the Lakeland default and the word hides an enormous range. Four guides covering tiers, locations, specialisms and cost.

TL;DR

A glamping pod is an insulated curved timber cabin, roughly 3m by 5m, sleeping two to four. Four tiers: basic (£95–£125), standard (£125–£160), en-suite (£160–£240) and luxury with a hot tub (£240–£400). The label — camping pod or glamping pod — signals tier rather than structure. Read the amenity list, not the noun.

Timber pods dominate Lake District glamping, and the reason is meteorological. Seathwaite in Borrowdale records around 3,300mm of rain a year, which makes it the wettest inhabited place in England. Canvas struggles here. A curved insulated timber shell does not.

The consequence is several hundred small pod operations across Cumbria, most with one to six units, on farmland that used to graze sheep. The quality range between two pods at the same price is enormous, which is what this section exists to sort out.

The upgrade we would buy first, every time, is the en-suite. It removes the 3am walk, the 8.15am queue and the wash-bag trek across wet grass. It costs £40 to £80 a night and it is worth more than that.
